Keynote in the framework of the research program “Towards an Aesthetic of the Contemporary – Categories for Arts and Nature in Alienation" encouraged by VolkswagenStiftung, Goethe University Frankfurt.
In a period when technology feels as natural, our images, bodies and affects endlessly circulate in the technomediated environments that we have come to inhabit. Our interests, desires and opinions are constantly captured by systems of algorithmic computation assisting at the same time in the formation of homogeneous territories and in the reinforcement of tensions and cultural divides. Which artistic strategies can be of use in a period of increasing confusion and dissatisfaction? What happens when old strategies like the ones of subversion, disruption and transgression are appropriated by far right populist groups and parties? The talk will look into different examples such as the ones of blaccerationism, queerness, estrangement, and glitch feminism.
